How to build reach on TikTok The best tips for a succesful channel

Tik Tok is a valuable marketing tool. Brands like boss, Katjes or Rossmann have already gotten the hang of it and inspire thousands or hundred thousands of people with their creative videos and challenges. Here's how you can build a successful Tik Tok account with your brand.

1. define the niche

The first step to successfully build your brand's reach on TikTok is to put pen to paper. You need to have a good strategy. It's important to think about what topics you want to target. You need a niche, otherwise users won't know what you stand for. If you're thinking about lip sync and dance videos, stay assured: there's room for every niche on TikTok. Be it educational videos for funerals, insights into being a pilot or the latest beauty hacks.

2. update your profile description

The keywords you set in the first step should also be reflected in your bio. This way, TikTok knows in which category your content can be classified and plays it out to the right target group. If you produce videos in German, then also choose a bio description in German.

3. posting frequency & posting times

You are new on TikTok and want to build a following? For this it is important that you post very regularly at the beginning. In the first months 1-3 times a day are recommended. This way you show TikTok that you are constantly producing exciting content for your target group.

To find the right posting times, you should consider the profession of your desired target group. Are they students? Then 1 p.m. (lunch break) and 8 p.m. (just before bedtime) might be appropriate. Do they work in a profession where cell phones are not allowed? Then 8 a.m. (before work) and 6 p.m. (after work) might work. In the beginning, this is trial and error. Once you're a few weeks in, you can screen your analytics, see what times your followers are most active and adjust posting times if necessary.

Just as your weekday mobile behavior differs from your weekend behavior, so will your audience’s. On Friday and Saturday, they're likely to be online longer in the evenings than on weekdays. Be sure to take this into account when setting posting times.

4. content: trending sounds, lipsync and original content

To successfully build your reach on TikTok, you don't necessarily have to lip sync only. It's the mix that does it. Original content videos, where the face of your brand speaks are just as important as introducing series and using trending sounds. Be sure to tailor the latter to your niche. Most recently, TikTok also pushed videos that went longer than 60 seconds. The same applies here: After the first few weeks, analyze which content was best received. Was it videos where the face of your brand spoke? Videos that were short or rather long? Which videos received the most following? Use your most successful videos as a guide and based on that create new content.

One last tip for you: Don't delete your TikTok videos. Not even if they perform poorly or you find errors in the text, because this is punished with loss of reach. If there is a video that you would rather remove, you can hide it. This way, only you can watch it, but it will no longer appear in your feed. However, there is one exception: If your video contradicts TikTok's community guidelines and you receive a message about it, delete it immediately to avoid being banned altogether.
